Cayman Re-opening

Tourists will be able to return to the islands in the coming months, in limited numbers at first, but those numbers will gradually increase providing it is safe to do so.  

The phases are dependent on the Cayman Islands reaching their target of vaccinating 80% of the resident population. If that goal is reached, vaccinated adults will be able to visit without quarantining from October 14, 2021 and vaccinated adults and their children will be able to enter from November 18, 2021 onwards. So, a family Thanksgiving in Cayman is a real possibility!

The Cayman Islands is currently in Phase 1, with incoming travelers required to quarantine on arrival for 10 to 14 days, depending on vaccination status. 

The key dates and changes for future phases are as follows:

Phase 2: 

From 9th August, vaccinated travelers will no longer be required to wear a GPS monitoring device while quarantining.

Phase 3: 

From 9th September – and subject to achieving the target 80% vaccination rate locally – a limited introduction of tourism will commence. Only securely verified vaccinated travelers will be permitted to enter, and the number of travelers will be limited. All inbound travelers will be required to have medical insurance coverage and to quarantine for five days. They will be permitted to quarantine at any hotel or other tourist accommodation.  

Phase 4:

From 14th October, verified, fully vaccinated travelers will no longer be required to quarantine on arrival but will still be required to make a travel declaration on the Travel Cayman Portal and show proof of vaccination on arrival. Unvaccinated travelers will need to apply for entry via the Travel Cayman Portal.

Phase 5:

From 18th November, unvaccinated children under age 12 will be able to travel with vaccinated adult tourists and will not be required to quarantine. 

The Government will continue to assess the local and international situation, and further relaxation of entry requirements, including cruise tourism, will be considered from 27th January 2022. 

The dates provided are the ‘best case scenario’ and these may change. Prior to moving to the next phase, the data will be assessed, taking into account the vaccination, hospitalization and death rates, and the emergence of new variants in key travel markets, as well as the impact of reduced restrictions on the spread of the virus locally. 

It’s been a long wait, but finally vaccinated travelers can get their calendars out and start planning a well-deserved break on our safe and sunny shores!
